National Fish & Chip Day returns for its 10th anniversary

London, UK. 9th April 2025 – It is a well known fact that the North, South, East and West cannot agree on what is the perfect fish to have as part of your chippy tea, cod, haddock or plaice, and whether curry sauce, mushy peas or gravy are a delight or a travesty but one thing everyone agrees on is that Fish and Chips is simply the best family meal ever.
On 6th June 2025, the nation will come together to celebrate their favourite dish as National Fish & Chip Day is back, marking its 10th anniversary.
Held annually, this special day acknowledges the iconic status of fish and chips. After beginning as a small initiative, the event has now grown into the UK’s biggest food awareness day with an estimated 93 million people seeing, hearing and reading about the day in 2024.
As part of the celebrations, organisers are encouraging the public to find their region’s fish and chip champions, sharing their stories from multi-generational chippies keeping traditions alive, to fryer-side romances to young fish fryers through a nationwide survey.
National Fish and Chip Day recognises and thanks everyone involved in bringing this family favourite to the centre of every community; from the fishers who go out in all weathers to catch the delicious fish, and the farmers who grow and harvest the perfect potatoes and peas, to the fish and chip shops and restaurants, home chefs and celebrity chefs, who take those fresh ingredients and create this versatile dish.
Gary Lewis, President of The National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association, which runs the event, reflected on the success of the day saying “This year marks a significant milestone for National Fish and Chip Day as we celebrate its 10th anniversary! Over the past decade, we’ve seen incredible support from everyone involved with fish and chips across the UK, and we’re thrilled to continue honouring this iconic British dish. Fish and chip shops are at the heart of our communities, and getting involved in this celebration is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the quality and tradition of this family favourite. We encourage all shops to take part and share in the pride and joy that National Fish and Chip Day represents.”
