CALIFORNIA, US, 2nd June 2023 - Ahead of the June 13th Anaheim legislative meeting, Unite Here Local 11 and the hotel industry are engaged in a vigorous discussion regarding the proposed legislation for mandatory panic buttons, higher wages, and workload limitations in the hospitality sector.
Unite Here Local 11 is championing the cause for significant wage increases, workload requirements, and improved worker safety by advocating for panic buttons, aiming to minimize workplace harassment and violence.
However, hoteliers are weighing this legislation with a key concern around the potential negative financial impact on the Anaheim Hospitality sector.
What both sides agree upon is implementing a panic button solution with indoor geolocation adds another layer of safety for Hotel Workers.
In response to these concerns, Location Tech, a Motorola Solutions Authorized Application Provide is working with the Anaheim hospitality sector. "Location Tech", led by former Navy SEAL, Jeff Engel, provides a range of solutions that go beyond panic buttons and is known for its advanced safety technologies that cuts costs and makes properties safer.
In addition to panic buttons, Location Tech offers a platform complete with features such as leak detection, waste monitoring, occupancy sensors, movement sensors, GEOLOCATION-enabled radios, plus other IoT / Smart solutions. Engel's and the leadership team’s vision has delivered an offering that is more than the first generation of Panic Button point solution, but rather a platform that has a suite of solutions.
Some hotels view Location Tech's offering as an efficiency tactic. In addition to enhancing staff safety, these technologies could potentially streamline operations and improve efficiency. However, striking a balance is critical to ensure that this doesn't result in employees working less and demanding more compensation, as some union advocates propose.
With the legislative meeting fast approaching, we encourage the community to participate in the discussion, helping shape the future of Anaheim's hospitality industry. Balancing worker safety and economic sustainability is a critical challenge, and it is one that we believe our community is equipped to meet.
We invite all stakeholders – workers, hoteliers, and the wider community – to attend the legislative meeting on June 13th, contribute to the discussion, and help shape this critical legislation for Anaheim's hospitality industry.
