MELTON MOWBRAY, UK. January 24th, 2025 - Saint-Gobain PAM UK has appointed NCM Auctions to manage the complete clearance of its Holwell Works foundry in Melton Mowbray. The Yorkshire-based auction and asset management specialists will also oversee the asset recovery across the entire site.
The Holwell foundry was established in the 1870s and has been a significant part of Melton Mowbray’s industrial heritage for over 150 years thanks to its success in manufacturing access covers and gully gratings for the road, water and utility industries. Despite its achievements, the site’s closure follows a production transfer to their Saint-Gobain PAM sister facility at Blénod, France – a move that will halve PAM UK’s road ironwork carbon emissions and help their customers reach their net zero ambitions.
Under this significant contract, NCM will execute a comprehensive site clearance program at Holwell Works. The program will combine careful decommissioning with optimised asset value recovery through an auction and private treaty sales. The project showcases Saint-Gobain PAM’s commitment to responsible site management, with NCM ensuring full compliance with environmental and safety standards compliance throughout the clearance process.
The exclusive online auction covers the processing, manufacturing lines and machinery across the entire nine-acre site, including melting and moulding plants, finishing and assembly lines, workshops and scrap metal recovery.
The online catalogue features a wide array of specialist foundry equipment, including induction furnaces, dip ovens, manipulators and overhead magnet cranes, along with robotic welders, lathes, milling machines, compressors, conveyors, hoppers and much more.
While some companies may wish to dispose of only several high-value assets, PAM is committed to a sustainable approach by repurposing and recycling equipment and machinery across the site. This approach benefits the local community, small businesses, and charities and prevents these items from ending up in landfill.
Amy Rutherford, Partnership Lead at NCM, said: “This contract award from Saint-Gobain PAM represents a significant milestone for NCM Auctions and reinforces our position as a trusted and leading partner for specialised industrial site clearances like the Holwell Works site.
“Saint-Gobain PAM’s commitment to sustainability aligns with our approach, where valuable resources are repurposed, recycled and reintegrated into the circular economy.
“Due to the size and scale of this site, the auction includes hundreds of assets, from specialist foundry and steelmaking lines to industrial machinery that will be suitable for a wide variety of manufacturing applications. We’ve already had a lot of interest from overseas buyers.”
The catalogue is online now and bidding ends from 1pm on Thursday, 20 February.
Private Treaty offers are also being considered. Interested parties or those wanting to arrange viewings can contact NCM on 01302 898260 or email for more information.
