Donr Unveils GiveCircle: A Dedicated Platform for Charity Lotteries
NEWCASTLE, UK. 8th February 2024 - As lottery-based fundraising continues to grow, tech-for-good platform Donr has launched a dedicated lottery platform, GiveCircle. The platform will enable charities to grow income from lotteries, to offset falling donations and rising costs.
The first mobile-based lottery was launched in partnership with Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter in May 2022. The solution was an immediate hit with supporters, particularly on social media. Since then, Mobile Lotteries have been launched in partnership with charities including Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home, Hope Rescue and Birmingham Dogs Home, with more than 10,000 supporters playing on behalf of their chosen charity each week.
As well as being popular with supporters, Mobile Lotteries are really beneficial to charities as they provide a reliable source of regular income. This is particularly key as charities seek to navigate rising costs and falling donations due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
Chris Bray, CEO of Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter explained: “Just like many charities in the current climate, our running costs are rising significantly. However, through our Mobile Lotteries we can build a reliable source of regular income, which will help us to continue to provide care to animals throughout the cost-of-living crisis.”
The launch of the GiveCircle platform will help charities to reach new audiences, grow their lotteries and generate more income to contribute towards their work.
Chris Newell, founder and CEO of GiveCircle explained: “We have already seen the positive impact that Mobile Lotteries can have on charities. By launching GiveCircle, we will be able to work with our existing partners to grow their lotteries further and also welcome new charity partners.”
GiveCircle will offer partner charities support to run social media campaigns, which is where over 90% of supporters find and join Mobile Lotteries. This helps charities of all sizes to find new audiences and encourage them to become supporters.
Marion Yates, General Manager of Animal Rescue Cumbria explained: “Working with GiveCircle has been a really positive experience, raising our profile and helping us reach many new supporters who now play our lottery. With so many cats and dogs needing our help, the growing number of lottery players makes a huge difference to a small charity such as ours.”
In time, the launch of the platform will also allow GiveCircle to partner with more charities on Mobile Lotteries. Whilst more than 6,500 charities use the Donr platform to run Text Giving campaigns, only a handful have been able to benefit from Mobile Lotteries so far.
Chris Newell explained: “GiveCircle acts as the lottery manager, which means we have to do a lot of administrative and regulatory work, as well as helping charities with the marketing of their Mobile Lottery. As a result, we had to make the difficult decision to restrict the number of charities we worked with. Launching the platform will enable us to grow our team and, in time, work with more and more charities.”
