New App Dubbed ‘Tinder for Clothes’ is Turning Impulse Shopping into Impulse Swapping, Redefining Fashion Across the UK.
LONDON, UK. February 3rd, 2025 - Imagine standing in the middle of a bustling street, and someone approaches you with a rack of clothes, inviting you to trade your outfit on the spot. It sounds wild, but it’s exactly how CLOSWAP, the UK’s #1 peer-to-peer swapping app, started its journey.
This Gen Z-powered startup, founded by three broke students, has taken its mission of refreshing wardrobes and saving resources nationwide. And yes, it’s as fun and unconventional as it sounds.
CLOSWAP is reshaping the way Britain thinks about clothes. The app, hailed as the “Tinder for Clothes,” lets users swipe, match, and swap fashion pieces peer-to-peer. What started as a university experiment—an impromptu event where hundreds of students swapped clothes—has evolved into a nationwide movement.
The original event was loved so much that the three broke students, who couldn’t afford to keep upgrading their wardrobes themselves, decided to take it further and turn it into a business. And now, CLOSWAP is thriving with over 20,000 swappers and plans for national expansion.
“At CLOSWAP, we want the pace, price, and practicality of fast fashion to be matched by swapping,” says co-founder Maria Remy.
“That’s why we host events and built the app. It’s fast, engaging, and free, with the added bonus of building an IRL community. For students like us, it’s not just about fashion—it’s about giving everyone the opportunity to constantly upgrade their wardrobe without spending money, EVER. You already have the currency; it’s in your closet!”
This year, CLOSWAP is scaling new heights, expanding to Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, and beyond with plans for events in up to five major cities, including Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Birmingham. Alongside these in-person swaps (complete with live music and quirky side activities), the app has gamified the experience with Karma Points, incentivizing users to keep swapping engaging and impactful.
The average Brit wears an item only seven times before discarding it. CLOSWAP aims to flip that statistic on its head, giving clothes a second (and third) life by connecting wardrobes across the UK. From free fashion at your fingertips to creating a circular wardrobe, CLOSWAP is proving you don’t need to spend big to look good.
After winning the 2024 Mayor of London’s Entrepreneurship Award for Creative Industries, CLOSWAP cemented itself as a leader in circular fashion. Now as a Resolution Fellow and part of multiple startup accelerators, the team of three students is ready to make swapping the number one way to refresh wardrobes in the UK, while raising their seed round under the SEIS advanced assurance.
