NOM!NAL London Unveils SS25 London Fashion Week Show: ‘School of Defiance’
LONDON, UK. September 19th, 2024 - NOM!NAL London’s inaugural on-schedule London Fashion Week presentation, which took place on Sunday 15th of September, showcased the full spectrum of the NOM!NAL Style. Building on the "School of Defiance" concept first introduced during London Fashion Week last February, NOM!NAL London presented a complete British School-inspired collection at The Dilly Hotel.

‘The School of Defiance’ is a distinctive concept within the ever-evolving NOM!NAL London Universe, where London is the institution, fashion is the curriculum, and the various subcultures of London’s history serve as modules.

The full collection showcased looks centred around the school theme, including prom-inspired evening wear, uniform-style day-to-day pieces, after-school attire, and loungewear, all inspired by the multifaceted British public school culture.

The range of textiles included wool blazers with stand-up collars, shorts, black and white lounge sets, tartan trousers paired with razor-collar shirts, and, last but not least, black linen summer sets with NOM!NAL’s signature red stitching, evoking a sophisticated summer in London vibe.

The collection also featured signature studded leather sets inspired by London’s renowned punk scene, while the white 3D latex pieces provided a fresh take on the sexy silhouettes for which NOM!NAL London is known, presenting new shapes and patterns. The show concluded with a 'NOM!NAL-ised' long red prom dress adorned with safety pins, a reminder of NOM!NAL London’s deep roots in London’s creative and DIY subcultures.

Looking ahead, NOM!NAL London plans to incorporate more tailoring, folding, and draping as the brand continues to evolve. The founders, Sean Solomon and Krisztina Kalman believe that inspiration from London Fashion Week should be accessible to everyone, not just those with invitations but to all fashion enthusiasts.

Sean Solomon, Co-Founder and Creative Director, NOM!NAL London, said: “As co-founders and creative directors, Krisztina and I, see ‘The NOM!NAL School of Defiance' as a pivotal moment in our journey as designers and brand owners. This collection has been crucial in shaping the Nominal aesthetic, pushing us to explore alternative forms and silhouettes. Despite not having formal fashion school training, learning on the job has given us a steep, yet incredibly rewarding learning curve—one we wouldn’t trade for anything.”

Krisztina Kalman, Co-Founder & CEO, NOM!NAL London, added: "At the heart of our brand lies a passion for crafting statement pieces that we longed to wear but couldn't find in the existing market. Our unique vision has struck a chord, garnering an overwhelmingly positive response from fashion enthusiasts who recognise and appreciate our distinctive style. Our British Iconoclast aesthetic, characterised by its bold fusion of traditional elements with avant-garde design, has become our signature. It's a reflection of London's vibrant, eclectic spirit - a perfect blend of heritage and innovation.”

As usual, after the main show, NOM!NAL London took fashion to the streets, allowing those who couldn’t attend the runway event to experience the collection.

At around 8pm, NOM!NAL London models paraded through Mayfair and Piccadilly, moving to the beat of the music amidst the traffic. They captured even more attention by setting off red smoke grenades, adding an element of drama to this iconic street fashion display. ‎

Overall, this unique fashion concept and collection reveal from a new brand has undoubtedly established NOM!NAL London as a promising newcomer to watch.
